Kate Middleton gave some aspiring tennis players a very special surprise, on what would have been the last weekend of Wimbledon. Speaking to students at Bond Primary School after their tennis lesson with the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative—a program of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club's that provides free tennis sessions to students—the Duchess gave a few hints about a special guest who would soon join them.

"He plays tennis for Great Britain. He’s a two-time Olympic champion. He’s a former world number one. Can you possibly guess who this might be, our special guest today?" she asked, in a clip released by Kensington Palace (above).

Someone at the school guess the right answer: Andy Murray. The tennis star then joined the video call, and answered some of the youngsters' questions, like why he'd chosen tennis as a career ("It was one of the few things I was good at, really; but I did because I enjoyed it, and I had fun doing it, so I’ve been very lucky").

It was surely a treat for the students to speak with a former world champion tennis player—and it was likely fun for the Duchess, too. An avowed fan of the sport, Kate reliably attends Wimbledon every year to enjoy the matches, and Anmer Hall, her and Prince William's country home, even has a tennis court for the family to play on themselves.

Last year, royal watchers learned that Roger Federer had even helped the Duke and Duchess pass down their love for the sport to the next generation. The tennis legend opened up to the Daily Star about enjoying a little tennis with Prince George, noting that the young royal has a "good swing."

He then added, "His mum has always enjoyed tennis. I hope he’ll stay the same in a few years’ time and this is not just an in-the-moment situation."
