Kate Middleton Surprised a New Mom With a Video Call During Quarantine

Kate Middleton may be following social-distancing guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn't mean she's putting her royal duties on hold.

On May 2, just ahead of the U.K.’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, Kensington Palace shared a video of the Duchess of Cambridge spending time making video calls to parents, health experts, midwives, and other experts to discuss how the strain and challenges of COVID-19 have affected families, especially when it comes to mental health. She even popped into a hospital (virtually) to surprise a new mom and her baby, which she said was "definitely a first."

"Hello! Very nice to meet you," Middleton greeted the new mom and dad from their hospital room so the couple could introduce the newest member of the family: a beautiful baby boy. Middleton looked completely delighted and immediately broke into a huge smile.

"He's so sweet. Aww, congratulations," the duchess remarked as she got a better look at the baby boy, before learning he was born at 10 p.m. the night before. "Oh my goodness. You must be exhausted!"

A nurse later joined in on the call wearing a mask and asked Middleton if she could tell she was smiling. "With your eyes!" Middleton affirmed. She went on to talk to other medical health experts, who provided tips for handling anxiety and dealing with the frustration of not being able to see other family members as new parents. Mental health has always been an important issue for Middleton, who started the Heads Together charity with her husband, Prince William to address the topic.

Apart from leading these important conversations, she's reportedly been staying at home, trying to entertain the kids with William. The royal couple have also made it clear they want to help during these uncertain times.

Before quarantining, Middleton and Prince William paid an in-person visit to first-responders, while Princess Charlotte was recently photographed by her mom delivering meals to the elderly.
