We love the Royal Family for a lot of reasons, but a big one is their dedication to a few very significant issues. Kate Middleton believes in addressing mental health and thinks that talking about feelings is critical for both children and adults. For example, she was part of the Heads Together campaign, which emphasized the importance of communicating emotions — especially when they start becoming a struggle.

This time, she decided to address mental health with an animated video from the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families. In the short film, Middleton opens up about how it’s essential to start conversations, and how it’s equally important to be there for others.

“It helps us all to talk about our mental health: what to say and who to talk to when we have feelings that are too big to manage on our own, and how to listen and help if one of our friends is finding things difficult,” she said. “Sometimes it’s just a simple conversation that can make things better.”

You can watch the video, called “Talking Mental Health,” here:

In the video, children are depicted as thumbprints. There are plenty of voice-overs, provided by children, describing the many emotions and “small feelings” we have — from confident to confused. It also discusses “big feelings” that don’t go away.

The video also addresses how to start conversations with people you trust about managing the mental health struggle, and reiterates the importance of being a good listener.

We think this video is a must-see for all kids, and think it’s wonderful that Kate Middleton is so set on spreading the word.
