Kate Middleton is teaming up with her favorite tennis star, Roger Federer. The Duchess of Cambridge and Federer will host a day of tennis in East London next month in support of two charities: Action for Children and the LTA Foundation.

The day of tennis, where children age 8 through 15 will get the opportunity to play tennis alongside Federer himself, will take place while the Laver Cup is in London. Kate is patron of both Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association (the LTA Foundation is its charitable arm); ticket sales to the Laver Cup Open Practice Day will benefit both organizations.

As Kensington Palace said in a press release, "Her Royal Highness is passionate about supporting grassroots tennis and encouraging young people from all backgrounds to become involved in the sport."

Kate is a regular at Wimbledon, and an avowed fan of tennis; so it only makes sense that she is bringing in 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer to help promote the sport amongst young people of all backgrounds.

The spotlight will be on Federer during the Laver Cup in September in London. The Laver Cup is a relatively new tennis tournament that is unlike any other on the regular tennis calendar; players are divided into Team World and Team Europe, and the location switches every year. This year, Team Europe is made up of the "big three" in men's tennis (Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Federer), along with Andy Murray, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Casper Ruud, and Team World consists of American stars like Taylor Fritz and Jack Sock, along with Argentina's Diego Schwartzman and Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Federer's participation will mark his return to the sport after a prolonged absence, and rumors swirling around his retirement. Therefore, it makes sense he's using the spotlight to give back—and working with the biggest tennis fan in the royal family to do so.

This is not the first time Federer has been involved with the royals; he gave a young Prince George a tennis lesson at the Cambridges' home in Norfolk. Federer noted George had a "good swing." He also shared, "His mum has always enjoyed tennis. I hope he’ll stay the same in a few years’ time and this is not just an in-the-moment situation."

Last year, the Duchess took to the courts to play with rising British tennis star Emma Raducanu following her victory at the US Open. No word yet if Kate will play alongside Federer.
