Kate Middleton Reveals Princess Charlotte’s Newest Obsession

It’s funny, when it comes to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, that anything Kate Middleton says about her young children—it could even just be a subtle grin when a well-wisher says their names—becomes a worldwide headline (“Adorable! Kate Middleton Grins Widely When Random London Man Says the Name ‘George’ In Her Presence”). We, as a population, are very eager for every morsel, no matter how seemingly minor, about the three-year-old and the one-year-old. And a new candid or portrait of either child? Forget it. We hear there are some U.K. parents who actually have photos of George and Charlotte in frames in their houses, rather than photos of their own children. (Just kidding, we have not heard that. But it seems like it could be possible, no?!)

So it should come as no surprise that Kate’s remarks about Charlotte’s latest fascination—during Tuesday’s Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic athletes—are getting pick-up. The Duchess met equestrian gold medalist Natasha Baker at the event, and afterwards the Olympian told reporters about her conversation with Kate.

“I asked her how are the children, and she said George really enjoyed the fencing and Charlotte really enjoyed her riding. It obviously got to her and maybe she will be here in a few years time,” Baker revealed. “She emphasized that Charlotte has this passion about horses, and although she doesn't echo it, she'll do her best to champion and encourage it.”

It may seem early—Charlotte isn’t 18 months old yet—for this sort of career pontificating, but given George is famously quite advanced for his age, too, none of us should probably be too surprised if Charlotte ends up competing in the 2020 Olympics—and then publishing a memoir about her experiences the following year.
