Kate Middleton Quietly Celebrates Her Birthday Amid Ongoing Fallout From Prince Harry's Memoir

For Kate Middleton's 40th birthday last year, three new portraits were released of the royal, now on display at the National Portrait Gallery. For her 41st birthday today, she is celebrating quietly amid the ongoing news surrounding her brother-in-law Prince Harry's memoir, Spare.

The royal family's social media accounts wished Kate a happy birthday, tweeting a picture of the Princess of Wales on her first trip to Wales as Princess in September 2022.

Other accounts also tweeted birthday wishes to Kate, including tennis legend Billie Jean King, who shared a photo with the Prince and Princess of Wales at Wimbledon this past summer. "We hope your day is a joyous one," King wrote.

Prince William and Kate have been in the news thanks to the forthcoming revelations in Spare, Prince Harry's memoir. In Spare, Harry reportedly details the feud between Meghan Markle and Kate.

In particular, he writes about how he perceived Kate’s feelings about Meghan joining the royals. Kate, Harry writes, was "on edge," as she was now "going to be compared to, and forced to compete with, Meg."

In one "awkward moment," Prince Harry shares how Meghan asked to borrow Kate's lip gloss before a joint appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum in 2018. "Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube," Harry wrote. "Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced."

In another story in Spare that dives into the now infamous flower girl dress drama, Meghan told Kate that she "must have baby brain because of her hormones" ahead of Meghan and Harry's royal wedding. The foursome tried to reconcile over tea at Kensington Palace, Harry writes, but apparently Kate told Meghan "You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!"

Harry writes how Kate was gripping her chair so hard her fingers went white, and Meghan was perplexed by her sister-in-law's reaction, saying that that is how she would speak to her own friends.

Spare will be released January 10.
