The rumors that spread in some gossip outlets that Prince William and his Norfolk neighbor Rose Hanbury had an affair truly changed his and Kate Middleton's relationship-but for the better, Us Weekly is reporting in its cover story this week. The outlet spoke to a Middleton family friend, who said that the rumors "turned out to be a good thing for them in the end."

The Duchess of Cambridge of course was not happy about the talk her husband cheated. “Kate finds the rumors hurtful, obviously, and hates the thought that one day her children will be able to read about them online,” the family friend said. But it became a growth opportunity for her and William: “It forced her and William to sit back and examine their relationship, which they realized they should have been doing more often."

A second source told the outlet that the affair speculation "didn't go down well" with Kate, but she and William were committed to pulling through it. "[They] are doing a great job at getting their marriage back on track again," that source said. “It’s not unusual to have a few hiccups in a marriage, especially after eight years, and Kate and William are no different. They’re still going strong. Regardless of their ups and downs, they love each other dearly and their kids are the most important thing in their lives.”

The affair murmurs first started in March, when The Sun reported that Kate had a fallout with Hanbury, her "rural rival." The Daily Mail came back and reported that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge even considered legal action for the false story.

The Daily Mail's Richard Kay wrote that the rumors of conflict between Kate and Hanbury were "false,"and "both sides have considered legal action but, because none of the reports have been able to offer any evidence about what the so-called dispute is about, they have chosen to ignore it."

From there, some outlets began reporting that there was gossip that Hanbury and William had an extra-martial relationship. The Palace, unsurprisingly, made no comment on any of the talk.
