  • Prince William and Kate Middleton’s dog, Lupo, has sadly passed away.

  • The couple wrote a touching tribute to Lupo on Instagram, as did Kate’s brother, James Middleton.

Sad news from the royal family: Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed that their beloved family dog, Lupo, has passed away. The couple paid tribute to Lupo on the Kensington Palace Instagram, sharing a sweet photo along with the message, “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. —W & C.”

William and Kate welcomed Lupo into their family in 2012—before the birth of their first son, Prince George. Per People, they got Lupo so Kate wouldn’t be lonely when William was away on a six-week deployment.

Kate’s brother, James, also spoke out about Lupo’s passing, saying on Instagram, “Nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of a dog. For those who have never had a dog, it might be hard to understand the loss. However for those who have loved a dog know the truth: a dog is not just a pet; it is a member of the family, a best friend, a loyal companion, a teacher, and a therapist.”

Seems like Lupo was a super-good boy. ❤️
