Kate Middleton and Prince William Have Welcomed Their Third Child

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have a new younger sibling, as their mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, has now given birth to a baby boy. The name of the third child has not yet been announced (oddsmakers had Alice and Philip as the favorites prior to the arrival). The youngster is fifth in line to the throne, behind grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, four-year-old brother George, and two-year-old sister Charlotte. (With the birth of the child, Prince Harry is now bumped from fifth to sixth in line.)

The baby was born at 11:01 A.M. U.K. time, in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. He weighs 8 pounds, 7 ounces. (George weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces when he was born; Charlotte was 8 pounds, 3 ounces.)

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the palace said in a statement. And Prince William was present for the birth, according to the palace.

There had been speculation that Kate might consider a home birth for her third child, but as Vanity Fair reported in March, opted to return to the Lindo Wing: “The room is all booked, the team are ready and everyone is just waiting for the baby to come,” a source said at the time. “They have had two very positive experiences at the Lindo Wing so it’s the No. 1 choice. She knows the team and she feels like she’s in very safe hands.”

Kate made her last official public appearance before her maternity leave on March 22, when she and William went to watch a wheelchair basketball game in Olympic Park. She also stepped out with William and most of the royal family for Easter services a few days later.

The birth comes less than a month before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, which takes place on May 19; Kate is expected to attend the wedding, to be held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, though she won’t have a formal role in the ceremony. It is unclear if the new, youngest member of the royal family, however, will be present for the festivities.

Kate Middleton’s Most Striking Looks in Her Third Pregnancy

October 10: For Kate’s first appearance following the announcement of her third pregnancy: a light blue lacy dress. (Get ready for a whole lot of blue, you guys. More consecutive blue than you’ve probably dealt with for some time.)
October 17: Ah, here we have a blue coat over a black turtleneck (though we must admit to being distracted by the extreme number of gold buttons on display here).

December 14: A darker blue on display here! This is a rare fully matching look from Kate (the gloves! The handbag! The hat!) that is frankly killer.

January 23: The dress is a powerful shade, for sure, but that scarf is really what grabs the eye here. It’s not often Kate goes for a funky scarf, so it should be properly appreciated.
