Kate Middleton Wears Her Most Fashion-Forward Look Yet
Though she typically keeps her style pretty classic, Kate Middleton sometimes surprises us with her fashion choices. The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a solo event at the Victoria and Albert Museum near Kensington Palace on October 10, and while she wore a dress from one of her go-to brands, Erdem, we are still in awe of her fashion forward ensemble.
The mom-of-three toured the museum’s new Photography Centre, looking as chic as ever in an off-the-shoulder tweed dress from Erdem’s Spring 2018 collection. Not only did the dress feature new sister-in-law’s favorite neckline, it was also inspired by both Queen Elizabeth and the Harlem jazz scene.
Designer Erdem Moralioglu told The Telegraph that he took inspiration for the collection from a meeting between the Queen and jazz legend Duke Ellington from 50 years prior. He said, “Her father [King George VI] had been a huge fan of his music, and when they met, he was so enamored with her that he wrote a piece of music called ‘The Queen’s suite,'” he said. “Thinking about The Cotton Club, and Harlem, and Dorothy Dandridge, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday… What if she went to New York, and what if Dorothy Dandridge ended up in Buckingham Palace?”
And so, a 2018 style moment was born. Middleton paired the dress with crimson Jimmy Choo velvet heels and clutch purse, which matched the gown’s satin belt perfectly. She topped her look off with Erdem’s floral hoop drop earrings ($440) and her engagement ring.
