Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle Make Their First Solo Outing at the Wimbledon’s Women’s Final—In Two Very Different Looks
Call it the Duchesses day out. Kate Middleton and new sister-in-law Meghan Markle made their first solo outing together today, taking in the women’s final match at Wimbledon to watch the action between Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber. And while both made waves in ladylike ensembles earlier in the week for Prince Louis’s Christening (McQueen for Middleton, Ralph Lauren for Markle) and the RAF Centenary (McQueen again for Middleton, Dior for Markle), today saw the young royals step out in two very different looks with throwback influences.
The Duchess of Sussex kept things cool in a 1920s-inspired Ralph Lauren ensemble complete with tailored separates. Markle wore a suit from Givenchy earlier in the week for a visit in Ireland, and it appeared that the Duchess sought to bring a feminine touch to English tailoring once again. Her striped shirt recalled the styles sold at Jermyn Street shirtmakers, while the fluid trousers were an elegant and girlish foil. Markle swapped out the fanciful fascinators and proper toppers for a panama hat to finish the look with polish.
However, the Duchess of Cambridge—a Wimbledon regular—kept things prim in a polka dot frock from Jenny Packham. The ruching detail at the hip was a cool puncutation and created a body-skimming silhouette, which was amped up by neutral tone stilettos. A Dolce and Gabbana top-handle tote amped up the regal vibes.
