Kate Middleton Just Wore Another Iconic Piece of Jewelry From Princess Diana’s Collection

After spending some quality time with first lady Jill Biden, Kate Middleton channeled another remarkable woman: her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

On June 11, the Duchess of Cambridge joined Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, at the G-7 summit. Shedding the raspberry Alexander McQueen dress she wore to meet with Dr. Biden, Middleton changed into an all-white ensemble and an important piece of jewelry that once belonged to Lady Di.

Princess Diana wore the three-strand pearl bracelet by designer Nigel Milne multiple times during her life. After her death in 1997, her personal jewelry collection was inherited by her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. Their wives, Middleton and Meghan Markle, have since worn many of her pieces, including this pearl bracelet and the Princess of Wales's butterfly earrings. In fact, Middleton's own sapphire engagement ring was also once owned by Princess Diana.

Just last month Kate Middleton honored the princess with an entire ensemble during a trip to Scotland. On May 24, the Duchess donned an all-blue outfit, featuring a double-breasted Zara blazer with a perfectly matched pleated skirt by the U.K. brand Hope, per People. The look was remarkably similar the outfit worn by Princess Diana on September 9, 1992.

Though the Duchess opted for a more modern silhouette, her monochrome look also featured gold buttons and a pleated skirt that lands below the knee. The only difference we could spot was that Middleton swapped out blue heels for nude pumps and added a COVID-19-friendly face mask.

During that same trip, her husband opened up about his mother's death during a moving address about his connection to the country. “Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memories. But also my saddest,” Prince William said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I was at Balmoral [Castle] when I was told my mother had died. Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the service at Crathie Kirk that very morning. And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep.”

But Scotland is also where the prince and his wife first met during college at St. Andrews. “And yet alongside this painful memory is one of great joy. Because it was here in Scotland—20 years ago this year—that I first met Catherine,” he said. “Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart. George, Charlotte, and Louis already know how dear Scotland is to both of us, and they are starting to build their own happy memories here too. We have no doubt they will grow up sharing our love and connection to Scotland from the Highlands to the Central Belt, from the Islands to the Borders.”
