Kate Middleton Just Debuted Royal Beachy Waves

Celebrities have been experimenting with new hair looks while under stay-at-home orders, and the majority of them are dyeing their hair pink. But when you're British royalty, the rules are a little different — pink hair might make Queen Elizabeth clutch her pearls, to say the least. So when a Royal wears their hair differently, the change has to be far less bold — but that doesn't mean we won't notice. Just ask the Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate Middleton, who just debuted a style that's subtly different from her usual look.

Middleton wore the hairstyle — which is basically a beachier version of her usual waves — in a video posted by the Kensington Royal Instagram account in which she speaks about her latest endeavor, Hold Still 2020. The project, in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, invites people to submit photo portraits that they've taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. A post on the National Portrait Gallery's Instagram explains that the project is meant to capture this moment in history, "creating a collective portrait of our nation which will reflect resilience and bravery, humour and sadness, creativity and kindness, human tragedy and hope as we hold still for the good of others, and celebrate those who have continued so we can stay safe." According to the Kensington Royal post, the project will focus on three themes: helpers and heroes, your new normal, and acts of kindness. One hundred of the portraits will be featured in a one-of-a-kind digital exhibition, slated to go live in August.

Now back to the hair. In the video, it's styled in polished, voluminous waves, a different look for the duchess who normally wears her hair in a bun or soft curls. While it's not your typical messy, texturized, beachy vibe (it's giving us more shoreside at the country club), it's definitely out of Middleton's usual hair repertoire and we're totally here for it. Take a look at the full video:

We hope to see this look more often on the duchess, even when the stay-at-home order is lifted. If you are interested in submitting your images for the Hold Still 2020 project, you can do so here or share them on your personal Instagram, tagging @KensingtonRoyal.
