Kate Middleton Had a Sweet Response When Asked Why She Doesn't Wear a Princess Dress Like Elsa

From Town & Country

Kate Middleton is a thoroughly modern royal-admittedly, a bit of an oxymoron. Just yesterday, she and Prince William traveled to Cumbria, where she happily sheared a sheep and helped repair a dry stone wall. The Duchess dressed for a day outdoors, in jeans and boots (well, Chloé boots), and didn't hesitate to get her hands dirty.

But this "modern princess" approach didn't please everyone. When Kate was greeting fans in the northwest England town of Keswick, she came across one young dissenter. She and her sister were a bit shy around Kate, so their father largely interpreted for them. "It’s a princess," he explained, per People. "You love princesses!"

Still, the girl was hesitant. "She wanted to know if you’d be wearing your Princess Elsa dress," her father explained.

"I know. I’m sorry," Kate said, profusely apologizing for her very un-Frozen look. "I came in my trousers and my coat because I’m going to see some sheep."

It's unclear how the young girl took this response, but Kate wasn't lying-she did see some sheep. Along with William, she visited a traditional mountain farm, where she took part in the annual sheep-shearing. With a little assistance, she seems to have gotten the job done.

Indeed, Kate may have accomplished that task more successfully than another, more princess-y endeavor she'd tried that morning. As she explained to a different young royal watcher, who had her hair in braids, "I tried to do a plait on Charlotte this morning, and it didn't really work very well."

Royals: they struggle with braids, too.
