Kate Middleton Goes High-Low in a $2,255 Dress & Affordable Wedges at Barry Island

Kate Middleton brought back the chicest summer dress for a visit to Barry Island in South Wales, U.K. today.

Joined by her husband Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge stopped at local businesses along the waterside spot to check in amidst the pandemic and its effects on tourism. For the occasion, the royal recycled a $2,255 blue and pink floral frock from one of her favorite designers, Emilia Wickstead; she previously wore the dress in September 2019 for a trip to the RHS Garden Wisley for the Royal Garden Competition.

For footwear, the duchess broke out her favorite Castañer lace-up wedges. The jute-soled shoes originally hit shelves back in the 1970s and are handmade in Spain; the design features a smooth suede toe set atop a wedge heel measuring about 3.1 inches. The shoes are available for just $190 on the Net-a-Porter website, turning them into one of the Middleton’s more affordable footwear picks.

Back in September of last year, the duchess donned the same floral Emilia Wickstead dress at the RHS Garden Wisley to meet with winners of their competition. For the occasion, Kate matched the design to suede blush wedges with and elongated toe and covered heel.

As for the Duchess of Cambridge, Castañer is just one of many affordable brands that she frequents; she previously chose pieces from Superga, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Adidas and New Balance. Her closet also holds a few high-priced items like footwear from Jimmy Choo and Gianvito Rossi as well as dresses courtesy of Catherine Walker, Stella McCartney, Oscar de la Renta and more.
