Kate Middleton Gave a Surprise Piano Performance on Christmas Eve

Is there anything Kate Middleton can't do? In addition to being an accomplished photographer, an amazing mother to three children, and not to mention a queen-to-be, it turns out that the Duchess of Cambridge is also a talented pianist.

On Christmas Eve, Kate gave her first-ever public piano performance during her Royal Carols: Together at Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey, which was filmed earlier this month and later broadcasted on the British broadcaster ITV. She debuted her secret musical skills alongside the Scottish singer-songwriter Tom Walker for a rendition of his song "For Those Who Can't Be Here" — and she sleighed her solo.

Walker agreed, saying: "Without doubt, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I thought she absolutely smashed the performance; it's not easy to just jump behind a piano with a bunch of musicians you've never played with before and record live takes to camera, but she completely nailed it."

The surprise performance was reportedly Kate's idea after she met Walker at a charity event in October, according to a royal source. She first learned to play the piano as a child and took "great comfort" in honing her skills during the pandemic. "Music was very important to the Duchess during the lockdowns," the insider told People. "She also recognizes the powerful way in which music brings people together — especially during difficult times. For these reasons, she was keen to be part of Tom's performance in this way."

Kate — who wore Christmas-appropriate attire in the form a of a scarlet coat dress and matching red Gianvito Rossi heels for the event — shared a clip of her and Walker's holiday presentation, as well as a slideshow of photos from the evening's festivities on Instagram. "Together at Christmas brought together so many inspirational individuals for a night of wonderful carols and music. But above all, it was about celebrating the goodwill, acts of kindness, love, empathy, and compassion which have helped people come through these difficult times," Kate captioned one of her posts. "Thank you to all those involved in making this happen."
