After a whirlwind of headlines surrounding Kate Middleton over the past couple of months (see: her health being kept more private than King Charles', Twitter spiraling over her whereabouts, and unfortunate Photoshop fails), the Princess of Wales announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the early stages of undergoing chemotherapy. In a video posted to her and Prince William's social media accounts, she revealed that she was diagnosed after her abdominal surgery in January.

"The surgery was successful," Kate explained. "However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."

*Ahem: unsubstantiated divorce rumors.

Upon the news of her diagnosis going public, a palace insider told Harper's Bazaar, "The Princess will return to official duties when she is cleared to do so by her medical team."

Kensington Palace stated that she would likely skip out from public duties until after Easter (aka March 31) after her surgery. However, since cancer was found in her system, the timeline seems to have shifted slightly.

"She is in good spirits and is focused on making a full recovery," the source continued, adding that William "will continue to balance supporting his wife and family and maintaining his official duties as he has done since the start of the year."

The update comes after a photoshopped image of Kate and her children was retracted from major news organizations, per the Associated Press.

"[This situation] has caused some stress for the princess, but she tends not to pay attention to online chatter or even the press," another insider told Bazaar earlier this month. "I think people forget that this was simply a mother wanting her family to look their best in a photograph that was going to be heavily scrutinized. She was protecting her children."
