Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were expecting their first child today. This is how the royal family, and the world, reacted.

Five months after their fairy-tale wedding at Windsor Castle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child. It’s a joyous announcement for a couple who, from the beginning, have spoken about their desire to have children: “Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future,” Prince Harry told the BBC in their November engagement interview.

Others are soaking in their happiness as well. Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, gave a statement through Kensington Palace: “Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild,” it said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton also chimed in, saying they were “delighted.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly broke the news to some family members—including Queen Elizabeth—this weekend at Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Now, the positive reactions from close family are to be expected. But what about the rest of the world?

As soon as the news broke, it began trending on Twitter. Much of the conversation involved reporters or royal fans joyfully weighing in, but others poked fun about how it clashed with the current news cycle.

Britain’s Brexit talks are at a troubling stalemate—a major problem, especially as the country is due to leave the European Union by March 29. That date, coincidentally, falls in the spectrum of the couple’s expected spring 2019 due date, and pithy commentary ensued:
