Kate Middleton Debuts New Royal Distinction & Looks Stunning in the Process

Kate Middleton looked like an IRL Cinderella at Queen Elizabeth II’s state dinner welcoming King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands tonight.

The Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Buckingham Palace wearing a pale blue Alexander McQueen gown and the Lover’s Knot tiara (a Princess Diana favorite). But it was the yellow brooch fastened to her chest that really caught our eye.

Upon closer inspection, the stately piece of jewelry features a portrait of the queen, which can mean only one thing: Her Majesty bestowed Middleton with the Royal Family Order.

Orders are doled out by the queen to female family members as a token of appreciation for their service to the crown and are worn on formal occasions.

This is reportedly the second time the duchess has worn her family order, which is made from glass instead of ivory, like other Royal Family Orders. This is likely a nod to the Duke of Cambridge’s animal conservation efforts.

One thing’s for sure: Her new distinction pairs well with that massive pearl earring and necklace set on loan from the queen.
