Catherine, Princess of Wales has marked World Bee Day with a surprising new look.

Today, Kensington Palace shared a new photograph of the princess as she joined the efforts to take care of the beehives at her country home in Norfolk, England, ahead of the celebration acknowledging the importance of the pollinators. In the picture, which was captured by Matt Porteous last summer, Kate wears a full beige beekeeper suit and netted face shield while skillfully handling a slatted rack covered in bees.

Beekeeping is one of Kate's longtime hobbies, as she keeps bees at her home Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate, and even makes her own honey. She previously brought a jar from her collection to share with a group of children when she visited London's Natural History Museum in June 2021.

"We are buzzing about #WorldBeeDay," reads the caption accompanying the pic on Instagram. "Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem and today is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy."

In addition to Kate's personal hives in Norfolk, the royal family also keeps four beehives at Buckingham Palace and two at Clarence House. The bees produced over 300 jars of honey for use in the Palace kitchens last year, enough for both the royal residency to be self-sufficient. Queen Camilla, who became president of the charity Bees for Development in 2020, also makes her own honey from hives at her country home in Lacock, Wiltshire.

Last week, Kate stepped out in a bright spring ensemble during a visit to London-based charity Anna Freud in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week. She looked lovely in an emerald shirt dress from Suzannah London, which featured a collar, navy silk-covered buttons down the center, shapely pin-tucks at the waist and shoulders, and a matching belt. She wore the dress with a pair of two-tone Alessandra Rich slingback pumps and large gold pendant earrings.
