Kate Middleton Breaks Her Maternity Leave Just for Queen Elizabeth
Miss the days when Kate Middleton showed off her fashion savvy with multiple appearances a week? So do we. Now that the Duchess of Cambridge is on maternity leave (until October) after welcoming Prince Louis to the world, public moments with her are few and far between. Luckily for us though, Saturday was one of those rare times when Middleton stepped out, and it was all for her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth.
Middleton attended the queen's annual birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour, alongside her family. For the celebratory occasion, Middleton wore an icy blue Alexander McQueen dress with a matching hat by Juliette Botterill. Her conservative outfit seemingly coordinated with William's stepmother Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Trooping the Colour doubles both as the country's celebration of their reigning monarch's birth and a gigantic military parade.
It's the time of the year when the whole royal family gathers on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a major photo-op as they watch military aircrafts fly ahead.
It's no wonder that Middleton wouldn't want to miss it. Queen Elizabeth herself has made a point to never miss a single Trooping the Colour since she ascended the throne in the '50s—except, as People points out, in 1955, when the entire parade was canceled because of a rail strike.
Middleton has a long way to go to compete for perfect attendance.
