Kate McKinnon Wins an Emmy, Thanks Hillary Clinton in an Emotional Speech
The 2017 Emmy Awards are about television, but politics are clearly on the forefront of everyone’s minds. First, host Stephen Colbert opened the show with some jabs at President Donald Trump, and even brought out former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to make some jokes about the audience size.
Then, Kate McKinnon won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy series for her role on Saturday Night Live, where she often played presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. In her acceptance speech, she was quick to thank the woman she so frequently impersonated on live TV.
“Being a part of this season of SNL was the most meaningful thing that I will ever do. So I should probably just stop now,” she joked while accepting the award. “Thank you to Hillary Clinton for your grace,” McKinnon added.
This is the SNL star’s second consecutive Emmy for the role of supporting actress, and after the crazy 2016 presidential race, let’s just say it was well deserved.
