On the heels of the success of HBO's documentary on the ill-fated (and allegedly fraudulent) company Theranos, Hulu is getting some Elizabeth Holmes content of its own. Here's what we know about the upcoming miniseries, The Dropout.

Amanda Seyfried stars as Elizabeth Holmes.

While Kate McKinnon was originally slated to play Holmes, the role was later recast, with Seyfried replacing the Saturday Night Live cast member. Seyfried is also a producer on the project. The series also stars Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani, Holmes's boyfriend and right hand man at Theranos.

In December 2021, Hulu released a few first look images of the series. See those below:

Executive producers on the project include showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Liz Heldens, Liz Hannah, Katherine Pope, Rebecca Jarvis, Victoria Thompson and Taylor Dunn. Per a press release, "Michael Showalter is set to direct multiple episodes and will also serve as an executive producer along with his Semi-Formal Productions producing partner Jordana Mollick."

It's based on ABC News's podcast of the same name.

"The Dropout" podcast has been ranking high in the Apple Podcast app's charts for some time. Hosted by ABC correspondent Rebecca Jarvis, the original six-episode show is the result of a three-year investigation into the Theranos and Holmes, and explores Holmes's origin story at Stanford, her decision to drop out to found Theranos, and

"The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong," reads the podcast's description. "How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as 'the next Steve Jobs' find herself facing criminal charges—to which she pleaded not guilty—and up to 20 years in jail?"

The podcast returned last summer for a second series, chronicling the lengthy and much-discussed trial which culminated in Holmes being convicted on three counts of fraud, and one count of conspiring to defraud investors.

The show was still filming as Holmes's trial was starting.

"The timing of this is bananas in so many ways," Seyfried

It’s crazy that we were shooting this show while the trial was beginning, because new information was always coming through to us, and we were always wondering if we were on the right track, we thought w were but who knows what was gonna come out? There was a lot of real life happening, the timing for me made it a ot more real. Sometimes you’re on set and you forget that the things you’re saying and doing were actually said and done.

The Dropout will premiere on March 3.

New episodes will drop each week on Hulu.
