Kate Mara Covers Adoption Fees of Ten Rescue Dogs

Kate Mara is partnering with the Animal Legal Defense Fund to help ten dogs find homes by covering their adoption fees, PEOPLE reports.
The actress is funding the adoption fees of ten dogs who worked with Canine CellMates as part of the non-profit’s alternative sentencing programs.
Helping Rescue Dogs and Prison Inmates
The organization took the dogs from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia, potentially saving them from euthanasia, and they then entered the Beyond the Bars program.
This program pairs rescue dogs with individuals charged with felonies. They get to leave custody on the condition that they participate in this program.
However, the lease on Canine CellMates’ headquarters recently ended, and the building’s owner decided to sell up. And, in short, this has left the organization without a facility, and ten dogs without a home.
The dogs are all in foster care at present, but efforts are being made to find them all forever homes. And that’s where Kate Mara comes in. She learned more about Canine CellMates and the Animal Legal Defense Fund during her time working in Georgia.
Kate Mara Gets Involved
“My family and I spent several months living in Atlanta as I was filming FX’s upcoming “Class of ’09”,” she explained in a statement. “Its humane community is one of the best in the country; constantly seeking innovative ways to create opportunities for people to experience the unconditional love of an animal.”
“We are so grateful to Ms. Mara for her support of our Canine CellMates program. And, her concern for the well-being of the dogs who play such an important role in helping people transform their lives,” said Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in a statement.
“While the Canine CellMates leadership works to secure a permanent home for the program, we are glad to know that these dogs will be placed in permanent homes through Ms. Mara’s financial support of their adoption.”
