Will and Kate Broke Royal Tradition With Where They Decided to Spend Their Wedding Night
Prince William and Kate Middleton usually go by the book when it comes to royal rules. They almost never engage in PDA. They follow the Queen's fashion rules and generally act like model royals. But, on their wedding night, they apparently broke a longstanding royal tradition by spending their first night as a married couple in Buckingham Palace.
As royal rule-breaking goes, this isn't all that scandalous and there's a good reason the couple decided to forgo tradition, which typically dictates that royal newlyweds leave for their honeymoon on their wedding day. In Will and Kate's case, work got in the way. At the time, Will was still working as a search-and-rescue pilot and wasn't able to jet off for a honeymoon until 10 days after the wedding, according to Express.
Traditionally, royal couples have headed out for their honeymoons right away. In 1947, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip spent their first night as wife and husband together in Broadlands, Hampshire at Philip's uncle's house. In 1973, Princess Anne and her husband, Mark Phillips, kept the tradition going by embarking on a royal honeymoon cruise on the Royal Yacht Britannia after their balcony appearance.
Will and Kate broke the royal rule in the name of responsibility, so we're sure the Queen approved. If she didn't, she probably wouldn't have let them stay in her house, after all.
