Kate Beckinsale took to Instagram over the weekend to share that she was being treated for a ruptured ovarian cyst. In a teary-eyed selfie, the Underworld actress wrote: "Turns out, a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry. So thankful to everyone who looked after me #wobbly." ICYDK, ovarian cysts "are fluid-filled sacs or pockets in an ovary or on its surface," according to the Mayo Clinic. They are actually quite common. Most of the time, they don't cause discomfort and disappear without being treated. If a cyst ruptures, however, it can cause serious symptoms like pelvic pain, fullness, bloating, or heaviness in your abdomen, as well as a fever and aches. That's why the Mayo Clinic recommends getting regular pelvic exams to avoid future complications.

As if Beckinsale's situation wasn't bad enough, the actress was also trolled for sharing the photo of herself. But she was quick to shut down the haters.

"It's actually not a selfie," Beckinsale wrote back in the comments section. "My mum took it. In fact, I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair."

She went on to explain: "I have Instagram largely to have my own honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented, I'd prefer to say what happened than endure speculation and so I chose to share. I agree it's not a normal impulse. But it's not normal to be photographed in vulnerable situations by people you don't know either. (If you were interested in knowing the provenance of this, which, you probably are not.)." Mic drop.

Here's hoping her painful experience comes to an end soon.
