Karl Lagerfeld Says Choupette Haters Are Just Jealous

Karl Lagerfeld is not the kind of guy to put things lightly—and the designer has some strong words for anyone who can’t be happy for the success of his very adorable cat Choupette.
Back in March, Lagerfeld dished to The Cut that Mlle. Choupette made quite the killing off her modeling jobs last year, scooping up €3 million. To put that into perspective, that’s almost as much as some of Forbes’s highest paid models made—and she made that money off only two jobs. But it seems not everyone is pleased that a cat made more cash in a year than most people make in, well, a few years, and Karl is not here for the criticisms of his fluffy confidante.
“In one trashy French paper they asked the reader, ‘Are you shocked that a cat can make so much money?’” he told T magazine. “Eighty-two percent were shocked, so I sent the editor a letter saying I was sorry to find that 82 percent of their readers were envious people.”
Oh Karl, but of course we’re envious! Who wouldn’t be shocked or jealous of a cat who worked twice last year and made that much money? It really makes one want to reconsider her path in life. Heck, if we could die and come back as Choupette Lagerfeld, we would definitely say we lucked out.
