There's a brand new Karate Kid movie set to hit theaters well after the hit Netflix series premieres. What makes this even more exciting is the fact that some very familiar (and iconic) characters are set to make a triumphant return.

Sony confirmed the new addition to the franchise back in September 2022, but not much was revealed about it. Fast forward to the present day, and there's now so much more context, and fans of the '80s movie are in for a treat.

When will the new Karate Kid movie premiere?

Get ready, because the new Karate Kid movie will premiere in theaters on May 30, 2025, according to Screen Rant. This date has been pushed back twice now, originally set to release in June of 2024, then in December 2024. The reason for this, at least the second time around, is likely due to the delayed Cobra Kai production—given that there will be some slight crossover.

Either way, that gives you plenty of time to catch up on the rest of the Karate Kid movies as well as every season of Cobra Kai! Just make sure you don't binge-watch them all *too* fast. (Kidding, binge-watch away!)

Who will be in the cast of the new Karate Kid movie?

This is the exciting part. Returning to their famous roles are Jackie Chan as Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso!

Joining them is Ben Wang, who will star as the movie's new Karate Kid! The 24 year old actor is the star of the Disney+ series American Born Chinese.

Ben's casting comes after an intensive global search for a lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, what ultimately landed him the part was his fluency in Mandarin, knowledge in many forms of martial arts (like karate and taekwondo), as well as his experience behind the camera. The character's name that Ben will be playing is not yet revealed.

What will the new Karate Kid movie be about?

Much of the plot is still under wraps, but we do know that the Karate Kid film will move the story to the East Coast (unlike the California setting in the previous films). It will center around a teen boy from China who finds solace and purpose in the world of martial arts.
