Kanye West Went on a Pro-Trump Rant After the SNL Cameras Stopped Rolling

Chris Rock put the whole thing on Instagram, because 2018 is super normal.

Today's deep sigh-inducing news comes to you thanks to Chris Rock's Instagram feed. Kanye West appeared as a musical guest on the season premiere of SNL, and long before the episode even aired he was posing for promo photos in a "Make America Great Again" hat. So, starting off strong.

Apparently, after the show ended and the cast and guests did the customary pleasant wave and sign-off, West began addressing the audience, saying that what was needed now was dialogue rather than a diatribe. He then launched into a diatribe about Donald Trump, and the "Democratic plan" to take fathers from families and promote welfare, as the entire studio fell awkwardly silent, except for a few laughs from Chris Rock who recorded the whole thing.

Per Variety:

“So many times I talk to a white person and [they] say, ‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist?’ Well, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago,” he said at one point. At another, he moves rapidly from topic to topic. “You wanna see the sunken place? Okay, Im’a listen to y’all now. I’ma put my superman cape on, because this means you can’t tell me what to do… You want the world to move forward? Try love.”

The castmembers appeared embarrassed and two performers gently shook their heads in unison as he spoke. The audience was quiet and booed him at least twice. “The entire studio fell dead silent,” one eyewitness told Variety. West concluded by thanking the show for the platform “even though some of y’all don’t agree.”

West has long appeared to enjoy flirting with infamy by voicing his support for Trump, but has kicked it into high gear in recent months in more and more deranged ways, which led to him announcing, ahistorically, that slavery was a choice. His wife, Kim Kardashian West, has assured fans that his love of Trump is sincere but has nothing to do with policies or politics because he doesn't really follow that.
