Kanye West Tweets He's Running for President in 2020

After years of hinting at a White House bid, Kanye West officially announced his plans to become president in 2020.

Throwing his hat in the ring alongside incumbent President Trump and democratic nominee Joe Biden, Ye tweeted he's running for political office on Saturday (July 4), which also happened to be Independence Day. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future," he wrote. "I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”

Moments later, Elon Musk responded, "You have my full support." Meanwhile, wife Kim Kardashian publicly endorsed her husband, retweeting his message alongside an American flag emoji.

While it's unclear what West's vision is for the future, he revealed at Fast Company's Innovation Festival last year that if elected president, he would "create so many jobs." "I'm not going to run, I'm going to walk," he said at the event. "When you see headlines saying Kanye's crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can't say nothing, they got no opinion, they're so scared!"

Before setting out for a political career of his own, Kanye has been vocal about his support for Trump. The pair famously met at the White House in October 2018 to talk about issues ranging from mental health and racism to tax cuts and prison reform.

In March, the rapper explained his loyalty to the republican leader while speaking with WSJ. Magazine.

"I'm a black guy with a red [MAGA] hat, can you imagine? It reminded me of how I felt as a black guy before I was famous, when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something," he told the outlet. "'This is your place, Ye, don’t talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you’re black, so you’re a Democrat.'"
