Kanye West Tweeted in Support of Donald Trump
Kanye West returned to Twitter last week after almost a year away, and on Wednesday, began using the social media platform to tweet a string of statements in support of President Donald Trump.
Among Kanye's many tweets is a photo of a "Make America Great Again" hat that was signed by Trump. (The hat's slogan, which was Trump's campaign slogan, dates back centuries as a xenophobic call to action.) The caption reads, "my hat is signed;" accompanying the photo were a number of fire emojis. The rapper followed up that tweet with one about a future meeting with venture capitalist Peter Thiel, who is known for taking down the website Gawker by funding Hulk Hogan's lawsuit. Thiel has also been an outspoken Trump fan. NEED LINK HERE That tweet reads, "I'm so happy to hear that Peter Thiel would like to take a meeting. I feel very optimistic about the future."
Of course, it's not new that Kanye is pro-Trump — in December 2016, he visited the then president-elect at Trump Tower. But this particular round of tweets has the internet (as well as Kim Kardashian) up in arms. Earlier today, Kanye posted a tweet that hinted Kim wasn't entirely pleased with his social media output. That tweet reads, "my wife just called me and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don't agree with everything Trump does. I don't agree 100% with anyone but myself."
Nonetheless, those words haven't stopped people from responding negatively to his overt right-wing support. The responses range from jokey anger to serious disappointment. And several people are calling for Kim to step in and take her husband's phone away.
Trump, meanwhile, has also responded on Twitter (because he always does). His response was simple, yet enthusiastic: "Thank you Kanye, very cool!" Though this is likely far from the last word on the Kanye/Trump matter, Kim also chimed in on the tweet spree with one of her own.
