Kansas City-area doctor talks pros and cons of weight loss drugs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —  You’ve likely heard of the popular drug Ozempic and its weight loss powers. It’s the latest diet fad, and people are rushing to doctors to try and get their hands on it.

Ozempic and other weight loss drugs are used for treating diabetes and are in a class of medications known as GLP-1 agonists.

Weight loss medications are useful tools that can help some patients lose almost as much weight as bariatric surgery, according to doctors who specialize in obesity medicine. But the pills and injections come with some strings attached.
