Kamala Harris can really rock a suit – here are some of her best looks

In the video above Susan Kelley of the blog What KamalaWore breaks down Kamala Harris’s most note-worthy looks in the past five years. From designer gowns to that white suit, Harris’s classic style remains consistent and professional, allowing her to focus on her job – and look good doing it. A big fan of the power suit, Kelley says Harris, “very much has a uniform.” She can often be seen wearing tailored suit sets with pearl necklaces and classic pumps (when she’s not rocking her Converse sneakers that is). What can we expect her to wear during the inauguration? In light of the siege at the Capitol just one week ago and the ongoing pandemic Kelley says the emphasis will be on looking appropriate and respectful, “I would expect probably a structured overcoat and probably a pantsuit.” Whatever she wears, she’ll be representing a moment that will live on for decades to come.

SUSAN E. KELLEY: It's really different from following royals or m because Kamala Harris, she does not want attention on her fashion. She wants the focus to be on what she says and what she does.

When I started hearing that she might be on the list of possible vice presidential nominees, I thought, wow. I do think that because of who she is and what she's doing, her style should be documented.

This is a Pamela Roland. It's tailored. It's structured. And the detail across the bodice gives it a little umph. I think that's a classic Kamala Harris evening look.

She will wear lighter colors occasionally. This is an Escada trouser suit, and it's a very muted plaid. I'm a fan of most of her looks. They're what she's comfortable in. You know, she very much has a uniform, and this very much speaks to that.

The outfit at the Pride parade is a great example of when she wants to use her clothing to send a message. It had the added benefit of being by Levi's, which is a hometown company in San Francisco. She's supporting the local industry. And she's got on the classic Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers that she's become known for wearing. This is somebody who's loving it, who wants to send that message.

I thought that she might wear white that night. She knows the message the suffragette white sends. It's a very elegant piece by Wes Anderson at Carolina Herrera, and the cut was just perfect. And the detailing was very chic. Overall great look for her.

The powder blue Michael Kors collection suit, it's a wonderful look on her. It's elegant and powerful.

The other cover with the pink and green background, which was set up to honor her sorority in college, which has been a key part of her life. I love that they wanted to recognize and honor that. I just think that the Michael Kors blue against the gold cover, personally I would have preferred that be the print cover.

She's like any woman I know that once you find something that fits, especially in a heel, my God you're going to keep wearing that style. Because if it's comfortable and it works for you, that's a beautiful thing.

What do I think she'll wear for the inauguration? That is a really tough question. Kamala is probably going to be in a dark colored coat or suit, or something that conveys a message of calm and competence and optimism. And it'll be an American designer.

I'm very excited to see what she does. It's been a good ol' boys club for a long time, and a lot of people have been working very hard to change that. So I'm hopeful.
