Kamala Harris’s Reaction to Winning the 2020 Election Was So Pure

How do you react to being elected vice president? Well, vice president–elect Kamala Harris seemingly found out during a jog and immediately hopped on the phone with her running mate Joe Biden. 

In a short clip posted to social media on November 7, Harris tells our next president, “We did it! We did it, Joe. You're gonna be the next president of the United States.” Then she full-on open-mouth laughs. Which, you know, relatable.

Looking honestly very casual for having just shattered multiple glass ceilings, Harris is dressed for a workout holding earbuds in her hand and standing…in the middle of a field! The Secret Service can be seen keeping an eye out behind her, but we know she was joined by her husband, attorney and future second gentleman Doug Emhoff, because he posted a picture of the two of them embracing on his own page with the note, “So proud of you.”

The race, which was too close to call for days, was finally decided on November 7, and the newly elected Biden-Harris ticket hasn't “officially” addressed the nation yet. However, Biden posted his own message of gratitude to Twitter, writing, “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans—whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.” His wife, Jill Biden, hasn't released her own statement but did retweet her husband's. 

She posted a cheeky photo of the future first couple covering the “vice” on a sign from Biden's tenure as V.P.

Harris's call is one of the many that will no doubt be made today as friends and family check in across the country to share and celebrate the news. We can only imagine how many texts Biden is getting. You win one presidential election and suddenly everyone wants to grab a socially distanced coffee!
