Kamala Harris Confirms Presidential Run

  • Kamala Harris has announced that she is running for president in 2020.

  • The Senator of California was the state's Attorney General from 2011 to 2017, and the District Attorney of San Francisco before that, serving from 2004 through to 2010.

  • In a speech posted to Twitter after her announcement, Harris revealed, "The future of our country depends on you and millions of others lifting our voices to fight for our American values."


Kamala Harris is officially running for president.

According to the BBC, Harris announced the news on Good Morning America saying, "I love my country," vowing to "fight for the best of who we are." She also shared an Instagram post along with the caption, "I'm running for president. Let's do this together. Join us: kamalaharris.org":


Taking to Twitter after her announcement, Harris shared a video of her announcement in which she said, "The future of our country depends on you and millions of others lifting our voices to fight for our American values. That's why I'm running for president of the United States."

Per the BBC, "the 2020 Democratic presidential primary will be the first time more than one woman competes for the party's nomination," making it a truly historic moment. Harris is just one of many people-including Elizabeth Warren-who have announced their intention to run for office.
