Kaitlin Olson Reveals the Prank That Led to Husband Rob McElhenny's $100K Eagles Purchase

Jason and Travis Kelce revealed the winning bidder of an auction for a kelly green Eagles varsity jacket, signed by Jason's wife, Kylie Kelce, on the pair's New Heights podcast on Wednesday. The jacket, which was inspired by the one Princess Diana wore in the '90s, brought in a whopping $100,000 for the Eagles Autism Foundation.

However, that hefty price tag—while undoubtedly going to a good cause—was the result of a prank between married It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-stars Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson.

The Kelces brought McElhenney on as a guest to explain that he had mistakenly believed he was in a bidding war over the jacket with another anonymous bidder. The 46-year-old said that he had initially put down $10,000 on the jacket, but within a couple of days someone had bid $20,000. But because he believes in the cause and loves the Eagles, he kept going. Soon the bid was up to $50,000, and the auction site actually crashed at one point.

"They were having issues 'cause I was smashing the button as hard as I could," McElhenney recalled.

"I couldn't believe that somebody was like, immediately jumping on every time I bid, and so my final bid was going to be representing my favorite player on the Eagles, 62," he said of his $62,000 bid, referring to Jason's jersey number. "I thought that was a good number, I thought that was a number that would resonate in the hearts and minds of Birds fans all over the world. And, again, was for a foundation that we feel really strongly about, that we really love and believe in—holiday season coming up, it seemed like the right thing to do."

"And then, I got a text from somebody that I know who said, 'I've been the one bidding against you, bozo,'" McElhenney revealed. "And it did not even cross my mind that this was a possibility, and it turned out that I live with this person."

"What up!" exclaimed Olson, who at that point jumped on camera to join her husband. "This moron—OK, we live in the same house ... The jacket looks great on your wife, it's clearly for women, I want it. He mentions nothing about it, I'm like, 'What are you doing?'"

McElhenney interjected at that point to note that only then he realized it was for a woman, as it went from Diana to Kylie to now, his wife.

"Also, hi, we share a bank account," Olson continued. "Maybe just fill me in. You know, I mean I'm 100 percent on board, but what are you doing? I had to find out on X to find out how much he's bidding. And from Jason Kelce, you say he's crashing the site—I was like, 'No, no, no, I'm crashing the site."

After McElhenney finally figured out what Olson was doing, she initially suggested bidding $87,000, as a nod to Travis' number on the Chiefs. "But I get it, go birds," she quipped.

However, because the couple both feel so strongly about the cause, they eventually settled on an "even $100,000" because it "felt like a good number." "We're just honored to be a part of it with you guys," McElhenney added, after applause from the brothers. And in the end, it worked out for all parties involved, but especially Olson.

"I win, basically, I win. I won the jacket, for sure," she pointed out. "He will not be wearing the jacket, ever."
