Kaitlin Armstrong Files Appeal for Murder ChargeKXAN

On November 16, a jury took under two hours to come to a guilty verdict for the murder of Moriah 'Mo Wilson.' Kaitlin Armstrong was sentenced to 90 years in prison, with the chance of parole after 30 years. She elected not to take the stand at any point during the two and a half week trial. Now, her attorneys have filed an appeal on her behalf, at the same time that the state has dropped the escape charges filed against her in October after an attempt to flee from police custody after a medical exam.

According to KXAN, Armstrong filed the appeal yesterday, according to court filings.

The Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced it filed a motion to dismiss the charges stemming from Armstrong's escape attempt in October, where she fled after a doctor's visit in Austin. She escaped police custody for 10 minutes before being recaptured, and was charged with another felony, this one “escape causing bodily injury.”

The trial for the escape attempt was set to begin mid-November, overlapping with the end of her trial for Wilson's murder. Since her guilty conviction in the murder trial, nothing has been shared regarding the escape conviction until yesterday.

KXAN reports that the District Attorney's office had consulted the Wilson family regarding the dismissal of those charges.

One source reports that these two decisions were unlinked. It's been two weeks since the guilty verdict for Wilson's murder was reached. In Texas, a person has 30 days to file an appeal after a verdict is reached.

We will update this story as information emerges.
