Kaitlin Armstrong Flee Attempt Adds Felony ChargeKXAN

With her trial for the murder of pro cyclist Moriah ‘Mo’ Wilson less than three weeks away, Kaitlin Armstrong’s attempt to flee from police earlier this week has resulted in the addition of a felony charge.

On Wednesday, October 11, shortly after 8 a.m., Armstrong was leaving a doctor’s appointment in South Austin, Texas, under police guard when she attempted an escape. A few seconds of her run from her guards was caught on video, as she appears to attempt to hop a fence as the police officer chases her and slides on the grass.

After 10 minutes, Armstrong was recaptured and a spokesperson with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that while she was at large for the 10 minutes, police had her in sight the entire time.

How she was able to flee so easily in the first place remains a question for the police department. “After the appointment, as two corrections officers were escorting her out of the building, they were in the porch area, about to step onto the parking lot to put her back in the vehicle, she ran from them,” Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kristen Dark told Bettie Cross of CBS Austin.

According to KVUE, Travis County records show Armstrong is now facing a new felony charge of “escape causing bodily injury.” (Presumably bodily injury to the guards who recaptured her, but it’s unclear.)

This charge adds another $50,000 to her already $3.5 million bond that’s in place for first degree murder.

Armstrong has been held since her capture in July 2022, with bail set at 3.5 million dollars. Her trial for the murder of Mo Wilson was originally set to begin in June of 2023, but was moved to October 30, 2023.

Armstrong’s defense attorney Rick Cofer requested and was granted a delay to allow for more time to secure witnesses and other evidence for Armstrong’s defense. It is unclear if the recent felony charge will be addressed at the same time.
