Kailyn Lowry Urges Parents to 'Teach Your Sons About Periods' After Unexpected Incident on Trip with Her Boys

The mom of seven, six of whom are boys, emphasized the importance of boys knowing what the deal is with girls and their periods

Kailyn Lowry is getting real about the importance of educating boys about periods.

The podcaster mom of seven, 32, has been sharing scenes from a spring break vacation with her four older boys — Creed, 3½, and Lux, 6½, whom she shares with ex Chris Lopez, 10-year-old son Lincoln, whom she shares with ex Javi Marroquin and 14-year-old son Isaac, whom she shares with ex Jo Rivera.

During the trip, the Teen Mom alum, who has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), unexpectedly got her period. She talked about why it was crucial her four sons know what was up and that the older two could step in to help if needed.

"Now normally I wouldn't freak out about this, but I have four of my boys with me by myself. So thankfully, they know what to look for if I were to have a little Aunt Flow emergency. Isaac or Lincoln could go to the store for me and grab something."

While Lowry noted she was prepared, knowing that she's irregular, she's thankful that, "in the event we were out and about, I would have no shame asking my oldest son to check me because sometimes you just don't know if you leak through things."

In addition to her four older boys, Lowry is also mom to infant twins Verse and Valley and son Rio, 15 months. She shares her three youngest kids with her boyfriend, Elijah Scott. When asked on TikTok about not bringing the little ones on the trip, Lowry explained her choice.

"We started this spring break tradition about eight years ago and the babies are entirely too young," she leveled. "They don't remember anything. If I've learned anything from taking Lux and Creed on vacation, it's that it's not worth the stress of the other kids."

She explained that this time around, "I have a partner who was willing and able to stay home with the babies and make sure that all of their needs are taken care of and I'm able to kind of spend one-on-one time with my older kids, who are able to do a lot more."

The mom reasoned that they'd be limited in what they're able to do if the babies joined them, which makes the trip less engaging for the older set.

"We have FaceTimed them every single day and we miss them, but at the end of the day, my older kids do deserve to have a vacation. I don't want them to be hindered by babies. When the babies are old enough and they're walking and able to be on trips, they can come."

On a February episode of her Barely Famous podcast, Lowry praised Scott for the way he handles the needs of her older boys.

"You have never made me feel like you resent me if I have obligations with my other children," Lowry told Scott, going on to point out that such flexibility isn't always the case in every partnership, noting, "[There are] couples who are not prepared for the work and the exhaustion and the responsibility of having kids."

Lowry said Scott has also always been okay with the fact that "something that I'm not willing to do is cut back on my older kids' schedules."

"I don't think the older kids' lives should be flipped upside down because of the new babies," she leveled, noting that some people decide differently and that she's privileged to have a support system that makes this possible.

"I can't picture a world where I'm like, 'Lincoln, you can't sign up for travel basketball because I had three babies in less than two years. I can't picture a world where I would do that. But I know I would imagine that has to be annoying or frustrating at times."
