Kaia Gerber Wears Dramatic Back-Combed Wig at Valentino Haute Couture Paris Show

Her hair is so big, it's full of secrets.

Part of the job when you’re a model is to rock some pretty outlandish hair and makeup at photo shoots and on the runway — it comes with the territory. You’re constantly surrounded by super-talented designers and hair and makeup artists, and you’re basically a canvas for their vision. And I'm willing to argue that Kaia Gerber may have just debuted what could be her most dramatic look yet.

Kaia hit the runway yesterday, July 4, at the Valentino Haute Couture show in Paris, dressed in a gorgeous, show-stopping pink off-the-shoulder feathered gown with a seriously hair-raising coiffure to match. Models showing off the upcoming Fall/Winter collection wore enormous back-combed styles that were reminiscent of the ‘60s — a little mod, a little chic, and totally fun — a perfect match for the romantic, feminine gowns.

You can see the hair in motion on Valentino’s Instagram; it’s certainly not small by any means, and according to the lead colorist at the show, Josh Wood, the look is full of secrets. He shared on Insta that it took “50 wigs, 3700 miles, 250 colour processes, 150 hours of prep, 11 team members, 7 models and one inspiration” to get the Valentino look. OK, so perhaps the big hair isn’t really something you can get in your bathroom before school, but if you dig Kaia’s style, try using a volumizing spray at your root before you blow dry, directing hair away from your face, and back-comb the top layers at the crown of your head for extra oomph.

Kaia sure has been busy as of late. She just opened Saint Laurent’s men’s show in June, and was a major player during Fashion Month. She’s probably used to these hair-raising styles at this point; after all, getting glam, even with skyscraper hair, is just part of the job — a job Kaia was literally born for!
