Kaia Gerber took a nonchalant approach to date night dressing while out with boyfriend Austin Butler.

On Friday, Gerber stepped out in black leather boots while heading to dinner at The Polo Bar with Butler in New York City. For the occasion, the model wore a pair of tall boots with narrow, squared toes and smooth black leather uppers. Short heels finished the style with a subtle height boost.

Boots like Gerber’s are favored for their full coverage, minimalist silhouette and low heels — much like trendy footwear in the ’90s. Square-toed styles have emerged as a more geometric take to the classic knee-high boot, with short bases providing a contemporary finish. Brands including Staud, Khaite and Neil J. Rodgers have leaned into the silhouette as well, releasing new styles with a similar nostalgic feel.

Gerber’s boots added a sharp finish to her look for the occasion: a black maxi dress beneath a collared dark blue coat. A Celine shoulder bag with a brown monogrammed Triomphe base and warm brown leather handle completed the star’s outfit with a versatile finish.

Butler complemented Gerber in a similarly dark color palette, outfitted in a black Carhartt work jacket with a white T-shirt, black trousers and a baseball cap — all finished by leather lace-up boots.

Gerber’s footwear choice for the occasion marked her latest coordinating moment with Butler, proving the power of a matching couples’ look. However, the star’s boots also embraced the merge of vintage details into modern design, creating a practical and versatile outfit base that’s ideal for the colder months ahead.
