Kelly released his debut EP Halloween in 2017 and his debut studio album Dying Star in 2018. When Kacey Musgraves and her husband of less than three years, Ruston Kelly, filed for divorce, she cited irreconcilable differences in the paperwork.

When asked about the divorce, Musgraves has said, “I mean, seasons change. Our season changed.”

Reportedly, it was the pandemic that ended up splitting up the couple as the forced time at home made them realize they were simply not a good fit.

Their joint statement about their break up read in part, “We’ve made this painful decision together. With heavy, but hopeful, hearts we wanted to put our own thoughts into the air about what’s happening. These kinds of announcements are always met with scrutiny and speculation and we want to stop that before it even starts… [We] were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason and have both changed each other infinitely for the better … It simply just didn’t work.”
