K9 Dog Hailed a Hero for Helping to Capture Escaped Fugitive in Pennsylvania

A two-week-long search for an escaped fugitive in Pennsylvania came to an end on the morning of September 13. They knew he was armed, which is why they made the decision to release a police dog.

Yoda the Belgian Malinois is cited for playing a significant role in the capturing of Cavalcante in Chester County, Pennsylvania. This K9 dog, who is part of US Border Patrol Tactical Unit based in Michigan, is known as a "bite and hold" police dog. This means he is trained to hold down an individual until he receives the proper release command, which is what he did in this situation.

When officers spotted Cavalcante and he tried to flea, they released Yoda. This K9 first bit him on his scalp and then on his thigh to keep him down. That's when Cavalcante submitted. Thanks to Yoda, Cavalcante was unable to use a riffle he stole from a nearby resident. From there, officers moved in and took Cavalcante into custody.

Yoda is making national headlines for his heroic efforts to end the two-week manhunt that brought in hundreds of officers to help. Cavalcante, who was convicted for killing his former girlfriend, escaped prison on August 31. He is also wanted for a 2017 homicide case in Brazil, according to a CNN report.
