K-Pop Super Group SuperM Debuts With Futuristic "Jopping" Music Video

“I knew SuperM would be lit but I never expected THIS."

K-pop group SuperM has officially entered the scene with their highly anticipated debut, "Jopping," and its dynamic music video.

SuperM was first unveiled by South Korean entertainment company SM Entertainment back in August. Touted as “the Avengers of K-pop,” the newly formed septet is made up of members from SM’s most popular male acts — assembling EXO’s Baekhyun and Kai, NCT 127’s Taeyong and Mark, WayV’s Lucas and Ten, and Taemin from Shinee. Apart from their SuperM duties, the members will still be active within their respective groups.

Following a slew of video and photo teasers, the super group’s first offering “Jopping” — an electronica-inspired pop bop — arrived on October 4 and it’s already climbing international charts, having reached number one in 30 countries. “‘Jopping’ is a new compound word coming from ‘jumping’ and ‘popping.’ We wanted to get the party vibes going,” Mark explained to Korea Herald. “The song is quite powerful and a great track to perform to.”

The accompanying music video is as elaborate as you’d expect, taking on a futuristic approach that’s rounded off by high-powered choreography. Since the project was first announced, the all-star line-up had fan hopes high, and “Jopping” did not disappoint.

“I knew SuperM would be lit but I never expected THIS woahhh,” a fan commented on Twitter after seeing the band’s debut. “I think jopping fits their concept just perfect i could feel the marvel in the mv production and even though the song is a bit slower than i expected it feels like a song from a slowmo fight scene,” another one added.

Alongside the music video, the group also unveiled their seven-track eponymous mini album. The debut album also features sub-unit tracks such as “Super Car” and “2 Fast” as well as instrumental versions of “I Can’t Stand the Rain” and “Jopping.”

The boy band will be making their live debut October 5 at the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles and streaming the event on SMTown’s YouTube channel live for those who can’t attend. On top of that, the septet will also be hopping on a 10-stop arena tour across the United States starting November 11.
