Justin Trudeau's Wife Officially Tested Positive for Coronavirus

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to remain in isolation over the next two weeks, as his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement on Thursday (March 13), it was revealed that Grégoire Trudeau fell ill on Wednesday (March 12), and was summarily tested for the virus after developing a fever. While she no longer has a fever, after testing positive for the disease, the couple opted to go into voluntary isolation for the duration of her sickness. This period will last for a recommended 14 days.

"She is feeling well, is taking all the recommended precautions and her symptoms remain mild," according to the official statement. Meanwhile, the prime minister himself "is in good health with no symptoms" at the moment. The isolation is being taken, as such, as a "precautionary measure."

"Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon," Grégoire Trudeau said in her own statement on the matter. "Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns."

Currently, there are 147 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Canada, with one death from the illness. It has officially been categorized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

Trudeau himself will not be tested for coronavirus at this time, as the original statement indicated, as he shows no symptoms. Doctors do not believe he poses a threat to anyone he's been in contact with as a result. But given that his wife is currently suffering from the illness, that could always change rather quickly, unfortunately.
