Royals can't really relocate quietly, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will surely tell you. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's desire to move to Canada part-time has made headlines around the world—and will require the input of the Canadian government, as the rest of the royal family rushes to plan out the Sussexes' future.

Today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made it clear that Harry and Meghan were welcome, but noted that the details would need to be worked out. "I think most Canadians are very supportive of having royals be here, but how that looks and what kind of costs are involved, there are still lots of discussions to have," Trudeau told Global News, adding, "There is a general feeling of appreciation for the Sussexes."

Trudeau added that—like the rest of the world—Canadian officials were still waiting to hear the royal family's final decisions on the matter. Just yesterday, Queen Elizabeth met with Prince Charles, Prince William, and Harry for a widely reported "summit" on the matter; afterwards, she released a statement confirming that because "Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives," they had agreed to "a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK." Still, she added, "These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."

Trudeau said that the Canadian government had yet to be contacted by the royal family to discuss the necessary arrangements and costs. (Likely, officials are concerned the pricey security required to keep the high-profile couple safe). "There are still a lot of decisions to be taken by the royal family, by the Sussexes themselves as to what level of engagement they choose to have," Trudeau said. "We are obviously supportive of their reflections but have responsibilities in that as well... We’re not entirely sure what the final decisions will be."

Neither are the royals themselves, it seems.
