The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had an extremely busy 2019, so it's unsurprising that the couple is taking a much-needed break from official duties over the holiday season.

Having celebrated Thanksgiving in the United States, Meghan and Harry decided to take their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, to Canada for Christmas. Duchess Meghan has a strong connection to Canada, having lived there while filming her television show, Suits.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of the first people to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. He adorably wrote on Twitter, "Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie, we’re all wishing you a quiet and blessed stay in Canada. You’re among friends, and always welcome here."

Trudeau recently spent time with members of the royal family at the Buckingham Palace NATO Reception in early December. He was even captured on camera chatting to Kate Middleton, and clearly has a great relationship with the British royals.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry previously confirmed in a statement, "As has been reported, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private family time in Canada. The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both."
