Justin Bieber has opened up about his mental health, telling fans he experienced an "emotional breakdown" after marrying his now-wife, Hailey Bieber, in 2018.

Speaking on The Ebro Show, he admitted that married life wasn't quite what he'd imagined. "It’s a journey. I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn’t," he recalled. ICYMI, Justin and Hailey got engaged back in 2018 and two months later they found themselves saying 'I do' at a New York City Courthouse. The following year, the pair made things extra-official with a star studded wedding ceremony held in South Carolina.

"You want your wife to do something that you’re not doing and it’s like, it’s hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realise, man, maybe you’re not the person that you necessarily thought that you were," the musician went on, adding: "That's just a result of trauma and life circumstances."

As for how he coped, Justin explained that his faith has been a big help when it comes to healing his mental health. "For me, obviously I've been very public about my faith journey and how my relationship with Jesus has helped me to just not be so hard on myself," he said. "Just the idea that I'm forgiven and that he's walking me through this journey and day by day, I get to just get better and better and not be too hard on myself."

The 28-year-old continued: "I think that that's ultimately what's going to encourage the people of the world, it's discouraging out here sometimes, life smacks you in the face and it can be hard to get back up."

But, this isn't the first time Justin has opened up about his mental health. Back in 2020 he shared an honest message with fans after experiencing suicidal thoughts. "There was times where I was really, really suicidal," he said. "I just would encourage people, like, 'Hey, if you’re feeling lonely, talk about it. Say it out loud.' There’s a freedom in that. I could have avoided a lot of pain."
