Just Sam Is the Winner of 'American Idol' and Arthur Gunn Fans Are Going Off About It
The American Idol 2020 finale results are in, and Just Sam is the official winner of season 18th (3rd on ABC).
Just Sam ended up beating out finalist Arthur Gunn for the top spot.
Congratulations are in order for Just Sam, who just was announced by host Ryan Seacrest as this year's winner of American Idol.
Just Sam was declared the 2020 season's champion after garnering the most real-time votes during Sunday night's finale. During the evening, Just Sam performed “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson, "Rise Up" by Andra Day, and, in the end, joined Lionel Richie, Ruben Studdard, Katherine McPhee, and others in a special rendition of "We Are the World."
In order to become this year's winner, Just Sam had to beat out the rest of the top 7 finalists, including Arthur Gunn, Dillon James, Just Sam, Louis Knight, Francisco Martin, Jonny West, and Julia Gargano.
Just Sam was always a strong contender for the title from day one of her Idol journey, though. In the audition round, Just Sam caught all of the judges' attention with her inspiring rendition of "Rise Up." From there, she continued to shine in Hollywood Week, the Hawaii showcase, and live shows.
Knowing how far the Idol contestant has come, Just Sam's fans were beyond excited the moment her name was announced as the winner.

That said, there were plenty of equally passionate Arthur fans who were shocked that their favorite didn't win. They, too, took to social media to share their feelings.
Arthur Gunn not being the winner of #AmericanIdol is crazy.

Though Arthur wasn't crowned this year's winner, we're sure his career will continue to soar well beyond the competition show. A prime example of that is past Idol runner up Adam Lambert, who is now the leading frontman for the legendary rock band Queen. This probably isn't the last you'll be hearing from Arthur, so no need to fret!
As for Just Sam, it's time to celebrate her big victory and get excited about all the new music the talented artist will start creating really soon. Until then, we'll be listening to her stunning Idol performances on repeat.
