Things to expect at a movie premiere in 2023: a pristine red carpet, celebrities in couture gowns, a custom backsplash and/or flower wall (if production is feeling fancy), and a mob of photographers and journalists ready to take a million photos and ask a gazillion questions.
But premieres in the early-to-mid aughts? They just hit different. By which I mean: actual carpets were optional (a lot of these things just took place...on the sidewalk?), it was socially acceptable to roll in wearing jeans and a bucket hat—and sometimes, the only thing to pose in front of was a random curtain. Also, I'm using the term "pose" loosely here, since celebs hadn't quite perfected red carpet glamour and were instead just out here cheesin'...or in the case of Nicole Kidman circa Mission Impossible 2, looking like a she was at a Twilight audition.
